How to Make Falooda at Home: Layering and Texture Guide
Prepare the basil seeds first
Soak basil seeds until they are fully swollen and surrounded by their characteristic translucent coating. Drain excess water so they add texture without unnecessarily diluting the drink.
Cook and cool the noodles separately
Falooda noodles or vermicelli should be cooked according to their type, then cooled before assembly. Warm noodles can raise the temperature of the whole glass and melt ice cream too quickly.
Chill the milk and glasses
Cold components give you more time to assemble distinct layers. A chilled glass also helps the drink stay refreshing without relying on excessive ice, which can water it down.
Control syrup before adding more sugar
Flavoured syrup and ice cream both contribute sweetness. Add syrup gradually, combine the main components and taste before deciding whether extra sugar is necessary.
Layer for texture, then stir to drink
A practical sequence is syrup, noodles, soaked seeds, chilled milk and ice cream, though recipes vary. Keeping components separate until serving preserves their individual textures and creates the familiar layered appearance.
Assemble close to serving time
Falooda is best when cold and freshly layered. If it sits too long, noodles continue absorbing liquid, seeds settle and melting ice cream changes the consistency.
